Staunton Oasis is an inclusive, secular community group that is guided by reason, inspired by compassion, and informed by experience. Our mission is to provide a place for all people to come together to celebrate the human experience.
We offer a place for humanists, atheists, agnostics, skeptics and other freethinkers to socialize and celebrate our diverse worldviews. Our goal is to offer a positive experience through family-friendly events, ethical education, and service to our local community.
Why does Staunton Oasis exist?
We recognize that there is a growing need for individuals and families who are secular, non-religious, or who have interfaith beliefs to have fellowship and to be connected with one another in a positive and caring community. In coming together, we can support one another and bring visibility to our diverse beliefs and worldviews.
Charles Phinizy came to Staunton in 2015 and is a founder of Staunton Oasis. Charles has a Mechanical Engineering Degree from NC State (Class of 1997) and currently works as a Senior Project Manager in Industrial Refrigeration. He enjoys tie dye, heavy metal, and thermal art.

Tom Cardarella
After retiring from Verizon in 1999, Tom Cardarella began classes in
painting, drawing, and piano, as well as helping various arts
non-profits. He moved to Staunton from the D.C. area in 2014 and was
soon pleased to find, and join, a group of like-minded people -
originally called Staunton Secular Humanists, now Staunton Oasis. His
interests include Science and Mathematics, and he enjoys viewing and
creating art.

Hailing from Colorado, Paul migrated to Staunton in 2020 and became a member of Staunton Oasis in 2020. He currently serves as secretary on the Staunton Oasis board of directors. Paul enjoys playing the mandolin, listening to live music, and hanging out with his faithful canine companion, Thor.

Sally moved to Staunton from Richmond, VA, at the beginning of 2020. She's active in real estate and loves the Staunton music scene. Dogs, especially old beagles, are a passion. She loves cooking and entertaining and crochet. And naps. Many naps.
